Classic Triumph Cars
The Triumph car manufacturing company was initially established in the 1880s to manufacture bicycles. The company moved into building motorcycles and then into car production in the early 1900s and has produced a range of classic cars over the years.
Although the company did well in motor racing terms in its early days it did not do so well in commercial terms. Things changed here, however, in the 1940s when the company was bought out by the Standard Motor Company. For many collectors the period from this point on heralded the advent of the truly classic Triumph cars.
For example, the 1940s saw Triumph release the Mayflower, the Renown 1800 and the Roadster 1800. In the 1950s notable cars manufactured by Triumph included the Triumph Herald Coupe and one of their best known classics, the TR2. This car remains a must for many collectors to this day.
During the 1960s the company released the Triumph 1300, the Triumph 2000 Mk1 Saloon, the Triumph GT6, the Vitesse 6 Saloon and the Spitfire 4. The classic of the 1970s was probably the Triumph Stag. This decade is considered to have seen the last of the classic Triumph cars.
