Classic Ferrari Cars

The Ferrari company is one of the best known car manufacturers in the world. Established in the 1920s the company has produced a variety of different high specification sports cars over the years, many of which have gone to be coveted by collectors as classics. This is in part due to the fact that the company often limited the manufacture of models to relatively low numbers.

Ferrari was initially set up purely to produce racing car services. During the 1940s, however, the founder of the company, Enzo Ferrari, started to manufacture road cars with a view to raising money for his racing activities. The first real road car produced here came within the S range - the 125 S. This was quickly followed in the end of the 1940s and beginnings of the 1950s by the 159 S, 166 S and the 195 S.

These decades also saw the production of Ferrari's first real GT models - the 166, 195 and 212 Inters. Collectors also like to collect the classic America and Superamerica models which were also produced at this time. One of the company's all-time classics here was the special edition 375 MM that was built for Ingrid Bergman by Roberto Rossellini. This was a custom built one-off version of the 375 MM.

The 1950s also saw the release of the classic Spyder. The limited edition 250 GT California Spyder model only saw around 45 cars manufactured and this car sells for millions nowadays.

By the 1960s Ferrari began production of the Ferrari 250 which is probably the most successful car that they sold early on. The 250 GTO model in the range that appeared from 1962 is probably the best known and most highly regarded of this particular classic range. This decade also saw the production of the Pininfarina coupes and cabriolets.

The 1970s saw the release of the Dino range of cars followed by the modern classic Testerossas and Mondials of the 1980s.
